Origins Boko Haram is the nickname for the group officially known in Arabic as Jama atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda awati Wal-Jihad--the People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet s Teachings and Jihad. Named by the Northern Nigerian Muslims and subsequently picked up by the press, the name Boko Haram translates to Western education is forbidden and is derived from the teachings of Mohammed Yusuf, the group s early leader, who claimed that western style education and the holding of government jobs are religiously forbidden, or haram, under Islam. Mohammed Yusuf founded the sect in 2002 in Maiduguri, the capital of the north-eastern state of Borno. He established a religious complex and school that attracted poor Muslim families from across Nigeria and neighbouring countries. The center had the political goal of creating an Islamic state, and became a recruiting ground for individuals wanting to participate in jihad. By denouncing the police and state corruption, Yusuf attracted followers from unemployed adults to poverty-stricken youths. He is reported to have used the existing infrastructure in Borno of the Izala Society, a popular conservative Islamic sect, to recruit members, before breaking away to form his own faction. In order to enhance public trust in the accounting profession, the first aspect to pay attention to is the initial engagement with possible clients. Section 210 of the APES 110 Code underlines the ethical criteria an accountant should comply with before accepting a new engagement or client. An accounting professional is required to consider if the engagement will create threats that may hinder his or her compliance the fundamental principles described in the Code. These threats may result from questionable accounting practices or illegal client activity. Furthermore, as per Section 220 of the Code, accounting professionals in public practice are required to identify ethical conflicts of interest and apply relevant safeguards to cope with them. Compliance with Section 210 and Section 220 of the Code would mean that the accounting professionals will provide ethical services that are in line with the public interest right from the start. I chose my project because the titanic is very interesting to me, a ship that was supposed to be unsinkable actually sunk. When people thought the titanic was unsinkable the only reason they thought that was because of what the person in charge of the whole project said it was. But the white star line never actually claimed that the titanic was unsinkable. People still believed that she was unsinkable but when the accident happened they started to doubt that she really was unsinkable. But after the people saw what happened to the titanic they started to not believe what they were being told. The white star said it was practically unsinkable, not totally unsinkable. What happened that day was very tragic, many people lost their lives due to miscalculations of the crew. Its sad how many people died on that ship.
